10 Nollywood Movies Of 2022

It wouldn’t be incorrect to state that Nollywood, the second-largest film industry in the world with an annual output of nearly 2,500 films, experienced greater diversity in the film industry in 2022 than in previous years.

Untold African tales, domestic romances, suspenseful thrillers, and expertly executed action movies dominated the market. A variety of new actors brought these movies to life.

Despite the fact that the industry has not avoided its problems. It’s still miles ahead of where it used to be, with Nollywood filmmakers focusing on telling Nigerian stories better from a Nigerian perspective while ensuring that the films rival Hollywood standards with quality cinematography and well-crafted costume designs.

With that in mind, here are the top Nollywood movies of 2022.

Blood Sisters

When your love turns into a monster, it’s only a matter of time before one of you is hurt. Sarah Duru (Ini Dima-Okojie) had Kemi (Nancy Isime) as a companion through her ordeal. But at what price? Freedom.

The plot revolves around two best friends who become fugitives after Sarah’s husband disappears on the day of their wedding. The story touches on friendships while also addressing important issues such as domestic abuse, parental abuse, love, and drug abuse.

The Griot

The Griot is set in Abeokuta, specifically in Wasinmi, a small town in Ewekoro local government in Ogun state, and tells the story of a storyteller named Sanmi (Temiloluwa Fosudo). Sanmi gains popularity in his village thanks to stories from his shy best friend, Lakunle (Adedimeji Lateef), but his love interest devastates the arrangement.

Anikulapo

Greed can do a lot of damage to a man. If given complete control, greed can transform a thriving and successful member of society into the last man on the food chain, as it does to Saro (Kunle Remi) in Anikulapo.

The story follows Saro (Kunle Remi) Alaso Ofi, who had an illicit affair with Queen Arolake (Bimbo Ademoye), which resulted in his exile from Oyo and eventual death. He was awoken from death, however, by a mythical Akala bird from which Arolake stole a gourd, giving Saro the power to resurrect the dead through the gourd stolen.
