The governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has mobilised Local hunter against possible invasion by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Sounding the battle cry while hosting some hunters at the Government House pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the governor said intelligence report reaching him revealed that ” Bororo ” Fulani herdsmen had surreptitiously entered the state.
Gov Fayose, who wore camouflage shirt, alongside with a pair of trouser and fez ca to match ” to reflect the mood of the nation ” urged the local hunters to go back home and defend the people.
Apart for the local hunters, other residents who showed up at the forum were revered farmers, popularly called the Agbekoya, vigilante groups and other residents from the Tiv, Idoma and Igede ethnic group in Benue State. The gov further said the situation in Benue and Taraba States showed that ” President Buhari lack the capacity to protect Nigerians.
” I have received letters that the Bororos have entered our reserves they want to violate our laws. I want to call on the attention of the FG that they have come and wanted to kill men and kids and women in Ekiti. We will nit allow that to happen. I want you all he hunters to go back today to protect your people, be vigilant, open your eyes, make sure everyone entering our state is screened.
“I can’t accept anybody to be killed. If anybody killed anyone I will make sure you are killed by ensuring justice. I’m sad about the killing in Benue but we don’t want brutality in Ekiti. I won’t accept any killing here, the only thing acceptable here is peace. I, therefore, plead with everybody to cooperate with us.” “I want peace in my state and everybody living here is from Ekiti whether you are Fulani, Tiv, Yoruba or anybody. Cow matter can’t cause a problem for us. Oke Ako-Irele issue should not be allowed to fester. Cooperate with us and whoever kills would be fished out. “When you are entering Ekiti, drop wherever you are coming from at the boundary. You can’t kill Yoruba, Fulani, Igbo or Tiv here. From the information so far, the deceased died as a result of a clash between Fulani herders and some Tiv people, but at that, we can’t condone lawlessness. We don’t want that type of Benue issue here.
” I sympathise with our brothers, sisters and people from Benue State that are mourning the brutality of those who killed their kinsmen.
” Governor Ortom should fasten his belt and protect his people. Those seeking for help in Abuja would not find because Abuja also needs help. I sympathise with you, this is your home and nobody would kill you. You are all saved here, ” he said.
“Don’t take laws into your hands but defend our people. Protect our people check all arrivals at night coming in the guise. I am making a line available where you can recall distress calls. I trust you that you can secure our people. I want to appeal to our people from Benue to pray for your state and your governor. I also leant that they want to come and be arresting people for no reasons. They would meet Gods hand in it. My hunters, you know Ekiti very well. Protest the state. We will be having monthly meetings”.
