Set in the 1980s Ibadan, Odun, a wealthy, lonely farmer with no surviving family save for his late brother’s widow Morenike and her son Femi, decides to marry a young bride, Funmi, from the neighboring village. Funmi, who is supposed to soothe Odun’s aging nerves and bring him joy in his old age, sinks into grief and despair, resenting her husband through this union arranged by her mother Tundun, whom she had no say in.
Except for his late brother’s widow Morenike and her son Femi, Odun, a wealthy and lonely farmer in 1980s Ibadan, chooses to wed a young woman named Funmi from the nearby village. Funmi, who is meant to calm Odun’s aged nerves and make him happy in his old age, becomes depressed and bitter, resenting her spouse because of this union that her mother Tundun planned without consulting her.
