Africa’s leading online music streaming platform BoomPlay has released its annual list of Top Artistes, Trending Artistes, Top Songs, Top Album, Top Gospel Album, Top Gospel Artistes, Top Trending Songs and many others (Based on the number of streaming, downloading & engaging).

With 4.5 Billion streams throughout the year, and 583,000, user-generated playlist globally, which is a laudable increase in the previous year’s success.

Tope Alabi not only tops the list as the best artiste of 2018 in Nigeria but also claimed the spot for most album streams. Davido’s “Assurance” claimed the spot for the most-streamed song while “Mind” by DMW is the second most-streamed song in Nigeria.

Mind by DMW, Joromi by Simi and Easy by Reekado Banks also topped as the most trending songs in Nigeria based on the number of times each song appeared in the Top 100 Nigeria chart.

Assurance by Davido, Single & Searching by Yemi Alade and Malo by Tiwa Savage featuring Wizkid claimed the spot as “Top Music Videos” in Nigeria based on the number of views garnered.

Afropop and Afrofusion was the most listened-to genre that dominated 2018, but Gospel music experienced a steep increase – with Tope Alabi being the most trending artiste of 2018.
