Legendary Nigeria rap star and president of Chocolate City Music, M.I Abaga was a guest yesterday at the most watched Y Naija‘s youth programme on Channel TV which was anchored by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
During the interview session yesterday, Ebuka asks M.I Abaga several questions such as how he’s actively playing the as Chocolate City boss and also as an artist. The role he played on his defunct Loopy Records, his view of the Nigerian music industry, which he believes has been inflated, NotJustOK’s rap list, expansion into South Africa and other African artists, among other things.
Ebuka further asked M.I why he did not tap into the American market due to his style of music.
He said he had lost interest in that attempt and added, “for you to be successful in America, you need to be American. Their culture is so closed and complete. Nobody will listen to you talk about Las gidi and J-town in America.”
