The jinx of Oyo-State not re-elected their governor for 2nd term, which has been since 1983, was broke on Saturday April 11, 2015.
The incumbent governor and All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate Senator Abiola Ajimobi, was re-elected back into office by the people of Oyo -State, he made history as the first civilian Governor of the 39year-old state to break the jinx of second term which his predecessors like late Bola Ige, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, Chief Kolapo Ishola, Alhaji Lam Adesina, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala failed to accomplish at different times of their tenure.
The sitting governor of the state won the election ahead of his strong political candidates opponent such Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala , Senator Teslim Folarin and Engr Seyi Makinde.
The election which also saw Ajimobi‘s All Progressives Party (APC) winning 18seats in the state house of assembly, left both Accord and LP with 8 and 6seats respectively. Both Folarin‘s PDP and Makinde‘s SDP however failed to win any seat.
Professor Ayobami Salami, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of OAU and the returning officer for the state governorship election said Ajimobi of APC scored 327,310votes to defeat Ladoja of Accord Party who polled 254,520votes and Alao-Akala of Labour Party who got 184,111votes. However, Teslim Folarin of PDP got 79,019, and Seyi Makinde of SDP secured 54,740 to be in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Professor Salami then declared that “Abiola Adeyemi Ajimobi of APC having satisfied the requirement and scored highest number of votes is hereby declared winner.
