Sometime in 2016, Sony Music expands their business terrain to emerging markets like Africa continent. The business opportunity pursuing by Sony Music in Africa was described as a good welcome approach to emerging market and new sound that’s ready to take the global market in a storm by business experts.
Yes! The view and expectation by us is accurate because some of the movement of Sony Music‘s Africa has seen the career of acts such Davido & Wizkid from beyond their comfort zone of Africa market. Firstly Nigeria act Davido got signed to Sony Music and the baby sister company RCA Records followed by his close rival Wizkid respectively, while the company shows seriousness in Africa by announcing the West-Africa region of Sony Music, which Micheal Ugwu was headed as General Manager with the headquarters of the region on Lagos, Nigeria.
The West-Africa region under the leadership of Micheal Ugwu, orchestrate the signing of Ycee to the Sony Music Entertainment African family last year December, but recent altercation allegations of ” Fraud & Theft ” by Ycee toward Micheal Ugwu is another media setback the company is receiving in Africa despite the lack of not owning creative direction Davido questioned the Sony team.
All effort wining in all odds ahead fellow competitor Universal Music, Sony Music of the African family has announced the signing of one of the biggest artists in Africa, DJ Maphorisa.
