On Friday 27th, May 2016, the second edition of New Media Conference 2016, was held at the Four Points by Sheraton, Lekki, Lagos. The conference had over 300 key new media players, social media influencers, brands agency representatives, Nigerian brand custodians and several others in attendances.
The New Media Conference was put together by social media influencers and founder Olorisupergal.com, Tosin Ajibade, while the theme for this year edition was ‘‘ Business Unusual: Nurturing a more Vibrant New Media industry in Nigeria ” which includes brand exhibitions, key takeaways and, contest showcase, well moderated sessions. However, in-depth discussions and analysis were facilitated around the New Media Industry in Nigeria, while highlighting several opportunities for growth for new media practitioners such as bloggers, digital strategists, agencies, government institutions, non-governmental organizations.
The convener of the conference Tosin Ajibade had something to says :
“ This year’s conference is particularly important,” we converged to articulate interests and inputs from stakeholders in the Nigerian online/digital media space and seek to turn the results of that conversation to real-world uses”.
This year edition of New Media Conference 2016 was hosted by Oscar Oyinsan and Vimbai Munithiri , while Country Manager for OLX Nigeria – Lola Masha was the keynote speaker for the conference. She pointed out one of the key element of organization growth in the 21st century is the use of social media. She further share insight on how OLX Nigeria failed at the early stage of doing business in Nigeria.
” New media has given brands a fundamental quality boost with added details and a better reach’’. She reiterated.
Femi Falodun who is lead team for ID Africa said government needs to have a proper understanding of the dynamics of social media in order for it to be properly regulated.
Seyi Sowunmi and Toke Bright were the two best participants of the NMC Showcase, each of them got a scholarship worth three hundred thousand Naira from Orange Academy.
Digify Bytes led a session on Content Marketing which was anchored by Olushola Aromokun.
The conference featured other industry experts such as: Adaora Mbelu-Dania, Ono Bello, Aibee Abidoye, Remi Ogunkoya, Subomi Plumptre, Jumoke Okikiolu, Chinedu Abili-Mordi, Femi Falodun, Okechukwu Ofili, Joy Isi Bewaji, Seun Onigbinde, Mohini Ufeli, Bankole Femi, Chinedu Azodoh, Adenike Akinsemolu, Segun Adaju, Kayikunmi Stefan, Bankole Temitayo and Olubunmi Ayodele.
The conference had five different panels that were moderated by Tolu Balogun, Bolanle Olukanni, Abolade Owoeye, Sanusi Ismaila and Princess Abumere.
