According g to report, FIFA has now cut ties with the French Football publication, who will have sole ownership and control of the prestigious prize.
“The contractual agreement between FIFA and France Football expired in January. We told France Football in early August that the contract would not be renewed,” the game’s governing body declared.
The FIFA Ballon d’Or was introduced in 2010 as the governing body merged their yearly World Player of the Year award with France Football’s annual Ballon d’Or prize.
The end of the partnership could see the return of FIFA’s World Player of the Year award, with president Gianni Infantino and other officials planning a potential replacement ceremony.
As part of this, FIFA are said to be looking into moving the event around different cities each year, with London first choice to hold the first one.
