The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new policies governing the admission process of Nigerians into tertiary institutions across the nation. From now onward, candidates who have not received their O’level results will not eligible to apply or secure admission in higher institutions across the country.
This was a statement released on Tuesday, February 28, by the examination body saying that it was part of its restructuring plan for 2017. JAMB said this will prevent these people from securing spots they are not qualified for.
Thus, candidates applying for JAMB must first have their results from the West African Examination Council school examination (WAEC) or National Examination Council (NECO).
JAMB also introduced a fourth choice of school option for all candidates which will allow them only be able to select one government school, IEI (Innovation Enterprise Institutes); i.e. candidate can only select an IEI as their 4th choice.
With this new policies, the examination body is aiming at expanding the opportunities available to candidates as almost all the public universities do not consider candidates on the second choice list because they hardly exhaust their first choices anyways.
Is this good policies or not?
