Don Jazzy‘s led Mavin Records continues to be mover and shaker of the Nigeria music industry over the past few years. The label his known for discovering and nurturing talents into gold in the eyes of music consumers around the Africa continent. Ever since the establishment of the label in 2012, they have become a reckoning force in the Africa music industry space with a successful career of Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Johnny Drille and recent recruiter Rema and Crayon.
Mavin Records is not just a label but a well-structured recording company, which led to them securing a multi-million dollar equity investment global strategic partnership deal with Kupanda Holdings early this year, leading them to re-brand from Mavin Records to Mavin Global and also making them bigger and stronger in terms of fund and company structure. To me, Mavin Records is not just a record label but a messiah that has tapped into the corporate business side of the Nigeria music business.
The Chief Operating Officer of Mavin Global, Tega Oghenejobo has this to say about the deal: ”The sustainability of any business in the world is in structure, which means you are putting something in place that is built by people, built by processes.
Being able to build a sustainable structure that will generate possibilities for all our stakeholders, you want to sell more product, this deal is ensuring that if you call us 10 years from now, we will still be in business.
It also means that if you are a young artist out of any country in Africa, you make amazing music and we are able to locate you, we will be able to put you on a platform that has a track record and the right employees that will be committed on the continent and also prepare your music for global consumption.
‘Of course, the plan is to expand within the continent and also internationally as well.
And to make everything right, we have to put certain things in place but what I can say is in the very foreseeable future, we will be looking at signing more new artists, we have been looking at a few over the last 2 to 3 years, so yes, our job as a record label is to locate the superstars and break them.
On the other note, the Mavin Global President and Founder, Michael Collins Ajereh, known as Don Jazzy has this to say about the deal: “Our mission is to grow Mavin Global into the music powerhouse of Africa”,
Mavin Global is not slowing down on its mission of building a sustainable recording company in Africa with a structure in place, just recently the company announces new label imprint such as D’Prince‘s Jonzing World and Baby Fresh‘s Blow Time Entertainment under the Mavin label imprint. Both D’Prince and Baby Fresh are signed recording artist and producer under the label respectively.
On the 23rd of July, Tega Oghenejobo and Don Jazzy shared a photo on their respectively social profiles with Lyor Cohen, who is Head of Music for video streaming platform YouTube. Both of them were seen holding up Youtube Shirts, and we believe that to be evidence of something great soon to come from the team. However, Lyor Cohen was in Nigeria for the third Google Event in Nigeria this year, where the search engine giant introduced some of the company product to Nigerians.
#Youtube Global team led by Baba in the game #LyorCohen came visiting. Our dear African music industry is growing. The conversations are getting bigger. The future is looking brighter. The musicians of tomorrow will be super proud of the bridges we built. #PanAfrican #Mavin says Don Jazzy
