The sexual allegation toward the led actor of ” House of Card ” Kevin Spacey, has led to the production company Netflix to announced the cancellation of the TV series.
In recent interview granted by Buzzfeed, reported that Hollywood actor Rapp said that Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted him in a hotel in 1986 when he was just 14 years old.
Kevin Spacey played the role of Frank Underwood in House of Cards from season one to five, was 26 at the time of the reported incident.
Following an extremely awkward apology Spacey is facing criticism from all four corners of Hollywood for using his sexuality as prop. In the wake of the controversy, Netflix has now announced that season six of House of Cards will be its last.
Netflix and production company Media Rights Capital sent out a joint statement from on-set in Baltimore revealing the news:
“In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
Series creator Beau Willimon addressed the reports with the following:
“Anthony Rapp’s story is deeply troubling. During the time I worked with Kevin Spacey on ‘House of Cards’ I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behaviour on set or off. That said, I take reports of such behaviour seriously, and this is not exception. I feel for Mr. Rapp and I support his courage.”
Filming on season six started a couple of weeks back. According to TV Line, the decision to end the show after this chapter was already made several months ago.
Netflix’s decision to announce the news in the midst of the controversy, however, seems telling.
