Noted Nigerian novel writer and advocate for feminist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, ignited an interesting debate that sparked conversation on social media about feminism and marriage, during her conversation with Hillary Clinton at a literary event in New York.
The Nigerian novel writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, questioned former American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on why she had a wife on her Twitter Bio, despite seeing herself as a feminist symbol.
This view by Chimamanda causes agreement on social media what’s truly feminist and what does it stands for? Though many people around the world did not buy into this view, and also our Nigerians on Twitter also disagree with it, but one Nigerian named Blessing Abeng, who’s a brand manager used the medium to write an open letter to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie after the Nigerian writer questioned Hillary Clinton on her choice of Twitter bio.
Blessing suggested that rather than push for feminism, egalitarianism should be the way to go, so that the rights of not just women, but also that of men, is taken into consideration.
Her post has gone viral with a lot of people agreeing with her opinion. One of those who agree with her is Betty Irabor. After reading the Twitter thread by Blessing, Aunty Betty replied: “I just followed you.”Read the thread below.
