One of Nigeria’s indie filmmaker Damilola Orimogunje is out with her debut Nollywood movie titled, For Maria Ebun Pataki. The movie is made of a compelling art-house style, and it confronts the realities of postpartum depression.

For Maria Ebun Pataki movie is a poignant and beautiful Nigerian story of a woman suffering from postpartum depression after giving birth to her child. Derin (Meg Otanwa), doesn’t speak to her family, friends, or baby.

Her husband is accepting the reality of the situation, but he brings his mother (Tina Mba) in to help with Maria, who knows nothing about postpartum depression and refuses to believe in it. She thinks Derin is a slacker and unfit mother, and she’s frightened that her kid Afolabi (Gabriel Afolayan) is being exploited.

For Maria Ebun Pataki Nollywood movie further tackles the subject of depression and mental health issues in our society.
