Biography of Lekan Alli
Mr. Lekan Alli, born Ishmael Olalekan Olusegun Olorungb’ebe Akao Alli, is an experienced administrator, industrial management, and public relations expert. He is also an entrepreneur, a conflict resolution expert, and teacher. He is also a Nigerian politician. He currently serves as the Secretary to the Oyo state government, a position he has held since 2014. He is a gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress party in the upcoming 2019 elections in Oyo state, Nigeria.
EARLY LIFE and EDUCATION
Mr. Lekan Alli was born on the 30th of May, 1957 in Ibadan, to the family of Alhaji and Madam A.M Alii. He started his primary education in 1966 at I.C.C primary school, Agodi and later proceeded to St. Paul’s Anglican School 1, Yemetu in 1967, where he eventually obtained a Primary School Leaving Certificate. He went on to the prestigious Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan, to complete his secondary school education and earned a West Africa Examination Certificate (WAEC) in 1974.
Alli proceeded to the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) to earn his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1979. By 1982, he had moved to the University of Ibadan to secure a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labour Relations. He completed the educational tour of prestigious schools at the time by earning a Postgraduate (Higher) Diploma in Management at the University of Lagos, Akoka, in 1991.
Lekan Alli has also attended a marketing training from Wang laboratories in Harare, Zimbabwe
CAREER
Mr. Lekan Alli started his professional career as a Lecturer at the School of Accountancy and Business Studies in Uyo, Cross River state. He came back to Ibadan to teach at the Ibadan Boys’ High School between 1980 and 1986. He then worked at the University of Ife as an Industrial Relations officer and Assistant Registrar in the Directorate of Personnel Affairs for 3 years. While in this role, Alli organized the maiden industrial relations conference for administrators in the public sector and higher educational institutions in Nigeria, in 1987.
Between 1989 and the year 2000, he rose through the ranks from a Deputy Marketing Manager to become a General Manager at Datamatics Company Nigeria Limited, a company representing Wang Laboratories Inc., Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America. As a member of Datamatics Strategic Management Team, Alli interfaced with providing personnel and automation solutions for international agencies; such as the American embassy and its affiliated agencies in Nigeria e.g. USAID, USIS, etc.

He then served as the Chief Executive Officer of Alcomer International Ventures, a complete office automation, equipment sales and maintenance organization for 14 years, before accepting appointment as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Oyo state in 2014.
As SSG, amongst other things which include driving implementation of government policies and projects, Alli notably led the successful campaign of the unprecedented 2nd term re-election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2015.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP
Mr. Lekan Alli is a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, also the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, and also a member of the Nigeria Industrial Relations Association.
POLITICS
On the 14th of August, 2018, Mr. Lekan Alli officially declared his intention to become the next Governor of Oyo state, under the All Progressives Congress party.
PERSONAL LIFE
Lekan Alii is happily married with five(5) kids to his beautiful wife, Mrs. Bolanle Alli. His love and dedication to the ideals of the family are second to none. He’s a practicing Muslim.
CO-CURRICULAR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lekan Alli depicts his ability to offer strong leadership here too. He serves as Chairman/President of different mainstream, social and educational associations. Amongst other roles, he served as the founding Scribe of Skala Klobb, a socio-cultural organization in the University of Ife between 1976 and 1977. He also served as President of Leo’81 club of Ibadan from 1983 to 1984.
