13. Gylfi Sigurdsson (£45m – Swansea to Everton, 2017) Flop
How Everton managed to spend so much money in recent years and still find themselves fighting for their Premier League survival last season is a mystery.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s £45 million club record purchase from Swansea in 2017 best represents the Toffees’ haphazard spending of $500 million on transfers since 2016.
The expensively acquired Icelandic forward only managed to score 25 goals in 136 Premier League outings for the club, falling short of expectations.
After missing the majority of the previous season, he was just released by Everton at the end of his contract.
