Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre For Disease Control has confirmed the first case of Coronavirus disease in Lagos, as citizens of the country are in fears of how the disease could wreak havoc in Africa’s most popular nation.
The case is the first case to be reported in Nigeria since the outbreak in China in January 2020.
On Thursday, a report surfaced online that Nigeria’s financial business hub Lagos confirmed its first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The case of Coronavirus patient in Lagos is that of an Italian citizen who entered Nigeria on the 25th of February from Milan, Italy for a brief business visit. He fell ill on the 26th of February and was transferred to Lagos State Biosecurity Facilities for isolation and testing.
He was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, which is part of the Laboratory Network at the Nigeria Center for Disease Control.
By this confirmation, Nigeria becomes the third country in Africa to have a confirmed case of coronavirus aside Egypt and Algeria and first in West Africa.
