Pastor Resigns to Become Soun of Ogbomoso
Ghandi Olaoye, a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the United States, has resigned from his role in the church, in order to become the traditional ruler of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
“He confirmed it yesterday,” sources close to the clergy told The Podium. “He has relinquished his position as the lead pastor.”
Mr. Olaoye’s projected kingship will slant his religious habits towards traditional rituals needed of the holder of the royal stool, having widely practiced as a Christian leader for over three decades.
Mr. Olaoye will be expected to follow traditional procedures of succession to the kingdom of Ogbomoso, as well as learn to adjust to traditional festivals of the Ifa oracle, Ogun, and Egungun, which are incompatible with his professed Christian beliefs.
Before becoming a preacher in 1992, Mr. Olaoye worked as an entrepreneur. He has a Bachelor’s degree in English as well as a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations.
If Mr. Olaoye succeeds in becoming the new Soun of Ogbomoso, he will be following in the footsteps of Kehinde Olugbenle, a former Redeemed preacher who resigned from his pastoral duties to become the Only of Ilaro in Ogun State.
