The Khalifa International Stadium, built in 1976 in Al Rayyan, has long been one of the most notable stadiums, having hosted the Asian Games, the Arabian Gulf Cup, and the AFC Asian Cup, among other events.

The stadium has been expanded to accommodate 40,000 fans and is outfitted with “innovative cooling technology” to allow players to compete in a comfortable environment.

A single roof will be added to the structure to shelter the seating areas, as well as a new east-wing structure that will house food courts, shops, multi-purpose rooms, VIP lounges, a museum, and a health center. In 2017, the reopening ceremony took place.
