The 12th Headies was a huge one for Davido after he won three awards which includes “Song of the Year” and “Artist of the Year”.
One of the highlights of the music awards night was Davido’s speech after he copped the Headies “Artist of the Year”. As soon as the DMW boss and his clan hit the stage, Davido seized the opportunity to make a clear call on his fellow colleagues to do all in their ability to help people. He encouraged artists to use their money an uplift people.
“I want to tell all the artiste here; una get money, anything una fit do for people make una do. E no go cost una anything. We rise by lifting others” – Davido.
David Adeleke, son of the Nigerian billionaire indeed has a big heart. Since starting his professional music career in 2011, the music star has literally used his star power to pull other artists into stardom. A lot of artists today owe a large chunk of their success in music to the Sony Music act.
Tekno
Made Men Music Group (MMMG) superstar Tekno is easily among the top 10 Nigerian artists. However, Tekno’s earliest success in the Nigerian music scene can be linked to a little input from Davido on his first debut single “Holiday”. Tekno easily scored a hit for himself by employing the services of Davido who without doubt had lustre to the song. From then on Alhaji Tekno has been growing in leaps and bounds arguably one of the most patronized Nigerian music stars.
Diamond Platnumz
Straight up from East Africa is Diamond Platnumz, one of the best musicians to have risen from that part of the world. Before Diamond Platnumz got even more continental recognition, Davido had to come along to show him off to West Africa. Prior to featuring Davido on “Number One” remix Simba’s circle of influence was merely centered around Tanzania his home country and a little bit around East Africa. Things changed drastically in favour of Diamond after his collaboration with OBO. After that Diamond has had the opportunity to work with A-list Nigerian music stars like the defunct Psquare, Waje, Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Flavour etc.
Humblesmith
Ekenedilichukwu Ijemba better known by his stage name as Humblesmith would ever be grateful to David Adeleke for his major industry breakthrough. Humblesmith “Osinachi” remix was indeed groundbreaking as it became one of the most played songs in 2016. An earlier version of the song, “Osinachi” which featured Phyno did not yield much until a remix was released. In fact people don’t remember the original song. Humblesmith bagged several award nominations thanks to “Osinachi” remix. A high point for Humblesmith was being nominated in the 2016 Headies Awards “Next Rated” category. Since then the Ebonyi state singer is yet to make a song with half the success of “Osinachi” remix ft Davido.
Mayorkun
Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel nearly owes all his recent exploits in music to Davido who doubles as his mentor and record label boss. During the just concluded 12th Headies Awards Davido revealed he discovered Mayorkun on Twitter after the later made an acapella version of his song “The Money”. Shortly after, he was signed to DMW and has seen his stock rise rapidly in the music industry under the watch of his boss. Mayorkun has picked up awards like Headies “Rookie of the Year” and “Next Rated” and other awards in between. Mayor of Lagos as he is fondly referred to is most valuable artist in his label, with a sizeable repertoire of hits to name. Looking back to two years ago he has Davido to thank for it.
Nasty C
A lot of folks are raving about South African rapper Nasty C at the moment. Especially here in Nigeria, he is one of the most loved non-Nigerian rapper at the moment. The “Hell Naw” crooner has had some beautiful outing here in Nigeria. However, his prominence in this part of Africa is connected to Davido. He came into our consciousness after Davido featured him on his 2016 hit “Coolest Kid In Africa”. Nasty C did a fine deal of rap on that jam, it is at this point most Nigerians started looking his way. Since his introduction to the Nigerian music scene he has worked with Runtown, Ice Prince etc., all thanks to David Adeleke.
Besides those picked out on the list, the entire DMW crew owe their fame to Davido; Dremo and DMW new in-house music producer Fresh VDM were discovered by him.
