Nigerian social media space has been buzzing with a debate orchestrated by National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) of being a profession, following a thought shared by the leader of National Union of Road Transport Workers, MC Oluomo on Micro-blogging platform, Twitter recently.
MC Oluomo made this comment while reacting to how Nigerians on Twitter usually call him Abgero and still come back to ask him for financial help.
According to him, he said National Union of Road Transport Workers is a profession just like law, engineering. He had stated that NURTW workers are not thugs but professionals.
He wrote: “For your information, NURTW is a profession just like Law, engineering and Medical. We are not thugs but we are professionals.”

Nigerians on Twitter to reacts to the comment made by the leader of the National Union of Transport Workers (NURTW). Though, some Nigerians supported his statement while others disregarded it, noting that MC Oluomo is wrong.
NURTW is now profession like law, medicine etc
😂😂
Our political system mixed with local gin has a way of giving confidence to people to talk trash.

NURTW is a “union”, not a profession.
A “union” is an association of people with common interests, a “profession” is a paid work especially one that requires formal training in school. If you don’t even know the difference, how do we explain your members are not “professionals”? https://t.co/4LGYiPdpqF

So NURTW is a faculty, department of agbero?
No school fee is required, its FREE, as long you can shout , run with buses, fight with conductor’s…. https://t.co/Ir3Cns8say

NURTW is a profession of bloody tyrants doing nothing but taxing these bus drivers and caring less about the conditions of these buses, safety of the buses and the hygiene of the bus parks, have you seen their secretariat? You’d never believe they have the resources to pull it off pic.twitter.com/TXu9rkqBEK

Mr Akinsanya some people don’t know that NURTW is a profession like others. In our University now, there is course called TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT. Some people are ignorant.

Yes Agberos can be quite uncouth but the major problem with Nigeria and why people cut corners is bcos nobody respects dignity in labour in this country. Yes NURTW is a professional union just like NBA, NSE, etc. MC Oluomo is 100%. Correct. https://t.co/VbwrfLRyoN

MC Oluomo is right. Driving is a profession and their professional union is NURTW – like NUT, NBA and NMA.
And they know how to use their influence better than these ones.
But NO, wokeness is worrying us all.

There’s a course called transport management in LAUTECH. Saying which school offers NURTW as a course is like saying which school offers NBA, NUT etc. https://t.co/IjBM4wQYrR
