On October 21, 2023, the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, hosted the first Trace Awards 2023 to honor the originality, brilliance, and influence of African and Afro-inspired music and performers.

Trace is a global music powerhouse and Afro-music tastemaker. Afrocentric music in genres like Afrobeat, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Afro-pop, Mbalax, Amapiano, Zouk, Kizomba, Genge, Coupé Décalé, Bongo Flava, Soukous, Gospel, Rap, Rai, Kompa, R&B, and Rumba was showcased by more than 150 artists at the awards ceremony.

The awards show’s star-studded list of performers included Davido, Yemi Alade, Black Sherif, Kizz Daniel, and others. It was hosted by Angolan global supermodel Maria Borges and veteran Nigerian musician D’Banj.
